Abstract:
An important figure in Bulgarian cultural and artistic history from the first half of the XXth century is the great artist from Veliko Tarnovo – Boris Denev (1883–1969). He is a famous and prominent master mainly of the landscape, which represents the romance and charm of his native town. During his turbulent and dramatic life, Denev works in different artistic fields, but his illustrations for books and magazines, remain a little to the side. The main aim of this article is to draw attention to the illustrator Boris Denev and to his drawings during the years from 1928 to the end of the 1940s. The focus of the interpretations will be on the illustrations for poetry collections, short stories and feuilletons, on his work for specialized publications, as well as on his collaboration with other artists.
