Abstract:

The article is devoted to the analysis of bachelor's programs in illustration offered by four European universities. It is noted that all programs include disciplines (or topics and tasks) aimed at developing the ability to create a coherent graphic and narrative project. Specific features of the educational programs are also examined. Among them are those linked with the second specialty introduced into the programs, such as comics, animation, graphics, books, and printed graphics. Other features inherent to particular programs are also analyzed. They are attention to the scientific and theoretical basis of teaching, experimental and project approaches to illustration, transformation of drawing skills from life-drawing to metaphorical ones, and so on. The conclusion is made about the usefulness of monitoring for identifying current trends and tendencies in modern teaching of illustration, clarifying the unique place of a particular university among other universities in terms of subject matter, focus, and teaching methods, updating the proposed educational programs by including the latest knowledge in them.
