Abstract:
The paper presents research findings with Roma children form Bulgarian kindergartens and primary schools. Roma children from different parts of the country (Sofia, Lom, V. Tarnovo, G. Oryahovica, Provadia) are tested with picture vocabulary tests for language comprehension and language production. An experiment is organized with Roma children where the Roma dance is used as an approach for language learning and vocabulary enrichment. Another experiment is focused on comprehension of complex sentences. The results are analyzed with statistical methods. The findings are compared with the findings in the scientific literature on bilingualism. The conclusion form the research is that still there is a need of deep research of bilinguals and their second/third language acquisition.
