Abstract:

“Professionalism in education and teaching profession” is focused on the ongoing debate regarding professional status of teaching and its relations with professionalism. Professionalism in education is viewed as both teaching characteristics and professional ideology. Each approach associated with descriptive portrait of teaching offers important and legitimate characteristics of this profession, but also demonstrates weaknesses. The article discusses some myths about teaching as a profession with negative impact on the concept about professionalism as well as presents some of the popular contradictions associated with teaching as a profession.
