Abstract:

The paper presents the results of a comparative study of the views of pedagogical specialists supporting students with severe and profound multiple disabilities in Bulgaria and Belgium (Flanders) on essential aspects of the organization and implementation of the target group’s education in the two educational systems. It carries out a comparative analysis of several criteria and indicators addressing the education and support of this group of students, including the competences and qualifications of pedagogical specialists, educational regulations, the applied methods for assessment of the individual needs and educational programmes, the approaches used for the students in question, the support environment provided, the intensity and type of support, the priorities in education and the effectiveness of the individual learning programmes, the difficulties faced by the support specialists and their needs, etc. The data from the comparative research illustrate practical aspects of the support and education of the target group in Bulgaria and Flanders and allow highlighting the similarities and differences between the two educational systems.
