Резюме:
During the Tanzimat period new types of judicial institutions – the commercial courts were founded in the Ottoman Empire. While on their legal status there is available literature, the functioning and practice of the provincial courts is an under-researched problem in historiography. Using various kinds of documents issued by the court itself, as well as the official Ottoman statistics and regional journals, the paper examines the everyday work of the Vidin commercial court in the late 1860s – early 1870s. More specifically, it clarifies the profile of commercial and judicial cases that the court dealt with (debt collection, bankruptcy, contract registration, surety and/or guarantee registration etc.), the court’s relationships with the provincial and central government authorities, the relationships with the other commercial courts, as well as the personnel’s turnover.
