In this paper, I present some problems related to the contemporary situation of the Banat Bulgarian language spoken in Romania. After 1943, the literary tradition of the Banat Bulgarians was interrupted. Printed media stopped to function, the language was not taught at school and the function of this micro language was limited to liturgy and everyday oral communication. The revival of the Banat language started in 1989 with the introduction of changes in the social, political and cultural life of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The existence of impressive quantity of literature for a short period of time and after the interruption of the literary tradition for 50 years poses interesting questions: What is the language of these publications? Do the authors follow the norms codified by Jozu Ril in 1866 in his “Balgarskutu pravopisanie”, which is considered as the beginning of the Banat literary language? How does the language globalization influence this separated from Bulgaria language, which has developed for 300 years following its own rules to become a literary micro- language. What is the problem of the Banat language as considered by Banat people and as reflected on the pages of the printed editions after 1989? In the paper, I focus my attention on these questions.
