The aim of this review is to make a thorough review of the documentation and studies related to the theme of the Rousse Municipality in the 19th century. The emphasis is on the facts and publications that mark the development of municipal self-government in Rousse and the establishment of the new Bulgarian municipality in the city in 1865. There are also sources and researches related to the local self-government in Rousse before the official formation of the municipality and recognition by the Ottoman authorities, as well as those after the Liberation 1878 until the end of the century.
