Резюме:

During the Great Eastern Crisis of 1875–78, a territorial dispute occurred about which little to nothing has been written in Bulgaria so far – one regarding the future nationality of Vidin town and Vidin Province (an important borderland region of modern-day Northwestern Bulgaria, but still a part of the Ottoman Empire at the time). The region’s neighbors Serbia and Romania both made their claim, each presenting their demands regarding the dominion, while Russia – whose position would largely determine Vidin Province’s nationality – hesitated for a long while which side to take. In the end neither claimant received sovereignty over the area and instead it become part of the newly established Bulgarian state, as per the demands of its predominantly ethnic Bulgarian population, thereby forming an important part of modern Bulgaria’s national territory.
