Резюме:

It is quite natural that a considerable number of works have been published on England’s colonial policy in the West Indies, and that most of them have been written in English. This topic has not been addressed in Bulgarian historiography thoroughly, but it has been studied in books by English authors translated into Bulgarian. A large part of the works presented in this paper are based on documents in English and on other historical data. The topic is still relevant today since the issue of colonial policy is related to the process of decolonization following World War II. The major works discussed in the paper show the huge importance of the West Indies for London and the whole British Empire, mainly in terms of the funds, accumulated through trading slaves, developing sugar plantations and placing naval bases of geostrategic importance at the disposal of the Royal Navy. This article is not intended to examine all research works that discuss major aspects of England’s colonial policy towards the West Indies. It aims to outline the main trends in historiography by presenting some basic works on the above-mentioned subject matter.
