One of the main problems in the newly formed Bulgarian state during the first months since the Liberation from Ottoman rule was the education of Bulgarian officers. It was necessary that they gradually substitute their Russian teachers in the management and command of the Bulgarian military forces. Many young Bulgarians went to the Russian Empire to receive military education. Later, part of these officers made glamorous military careers and their biographies became well known to the Bulgarian reader. Unfortunately, the names of others who were educated in Russia, are forgotten today, although they also played a significant role in both the formation of the Bulgarian army and during the wars for national unification which the country experienced in the early 20th century. This group also includes the officer whose biography is the subject of this paper
