Резюме:

A brief overview of the history of establishment of nature reserves and formation of the contemporary reserve network in Bulgaria is presented. On this basis, some periods of particular intensification of this activity and those with a very low intensity are differentiated. Typical features can be highlighted for each of the periods. The trends in the changes in the areas of natural reserves are discussed. This activity and these trends are related to the changes in the legislation protecting nature in the country.
