Abstract:

Depopulation is a long lasting unfavourable process, expressed in a continuous reduction of the population of a given territory. This is also one of the main problems facing the mountainous regions of Northern Bulgaria. A significant part of them today are on the verge of complete depopulation or have already reached this final phase of the depopulation process. A number of settlements have fallen out of the settlement network of the mountainous regions of Northern Bulgaria or are in danger of falling away, as a result of depopulation. It is also the reason for the weakening of the anthropogenic load in these territories, even in the construction boundaries of the villages.
