Abstract:

The author focuses on the personality of the Byzantine historian George Sphrances. Based on his chronicle the paper reconstruct geographical and historical knowledge of the historian. The paper analyze the relationship of Sphrances to the Church and the Orthodox faith. The author consider the attitude of the Byzantine dignitary to the social order and the Ottoman invasion.
