Boarding School Care in the Views of Hermann Lietz

Abstract:

The article presents boarding schools from the first half of the 20th century in Iselberg, Haubinda and Biеberstein from the perspective of Hermann Lietz. The theoretical research focuses on the organization of the boarding facilities, on the rules of living in a small group (up to 12 pupils), on the contact with nature, and on community life. The paper also outlines the strengths and weaknesses of boarding schools in comparison with educational institutions, as well as their socio-pedagogical orientation. In conclusion, it is indicated what messages Leitz has left in his work, and how they still find expression in today’s educational and social systems.
