Abstract:

The article presents the continuity of applied Kantian ethics from the perspective of neo-Kantianism and in the work of Leonard Nelson. It outlines the starting points of critical philosophy and the leading antinomy of pedagogy related to the imbalance between freedom and sociality in the education process. It also presents Nelson’s solution to this problem, putting emphasis on his contribution to the combination of the Socratic and critical methods of knowledge. In this way, Nelson rationalizes the ethical principles of the Enlightenment in pedagogical practice and overcomes the bias towards dogmatism in educational interaction.
