Abstract:

The anti-government protests of 2020 brought about a transformation of the political process in Bulgaria. People’s discontent was marked by the change of generations. This replaced the main public opposition of the last 30+ years, namely communism vs. anti-communism, with the battle between status quo and change. The expectations were that the transformation process would end in 2021. However, it turned out that it went through several more stages to its end in 2023. This article analyzes the factors leading to the emergence of new stages in Bulgaria’s political transformation.
