Abstract:
This paper examines the ontological implications of the ALARM theory. Тhe tension between the functional differentiation of basic arousal (BA) and general alertness (GA) and the requirement for phenomenal unity has been discussed. Utilizing Shoemaker’s subset view of realization, the author proposes that BA and GA are not distinct properties but subsets of causal powers within a single phenomenal property. This model preserves phenomenal unity and ensures causal efficacy within a non-reductive physicalist framework.
