Резюме:

The British society before the outbreak of the First World War is highly divided and unequal. While men have a variety of civil rights, access to good education and paid labour, the women’s freedom and rights are limited. The article examines British women’s way of life, their traditional responsibilities as housewives and mothers, opportunities for education and work, exploring at the same time their difficult fight for equality and civil rights. The research creates a profound and complex picture of the British women before 1914 in order to show the great changes in their self-confidence and role which come with the advance of the war.
