Abstract:

This article presents the steps for building a low-cost turtle robot and developing a translator that allows us to program the robot not only in its native Arduino and C languages, but also in the block-programming language Snap!. These tools are built on the foundation of the turtle geometry laid by Seymour Papert more than 50 years ago [6]. It was implemented in Bulgaria as part of the curriculum for the experimental schools of the Research Group on Education (RGE) [11, p. 194], [12, p. 4]. For primary school students, the turtle is an object through which they can reflect on their own thinking and receive feedback about their thoughts [10]. This approach enriches the STEAM school education, with an opportunity for home experiments, because the floor turtle can be designed and built by a student from scratch, at minimal cost.
