In communication between two persons who cannot communicate in a common language, an intermediary on whom both participants in the conversation (both personal and business) rely for its success is always needed. In the course of the historical development of mankind, the intermediary in question has born different names in different languages without changing their functions. In todays` globalized world, the challenges the interpreter faces become more and more and require more and more skills on their part because of the ever increasing competition with artificial intelligences. The subject of the present report is the communicative competences of the interpreter in the new century as a consequence of the changed needs in public life.
