Abstract:

The article defines the terminological meaning of the phrase sterile speech as a construct of the features of three pairs of registers – formal / conversational, written / oral and prepared / spontaneous. A hypothesis is formulated for the dominance of the formal register peculiarities in defining speech as sterile. The results of an experiment are commented, in which participants evaluated two radio texts according to preset features. These results show that the peculiarities of the formal register are ignored at the expense of those of the oral and especially of the spontaneous register. The results also indicate that the criteria for spontaneity of speech weigh significantly in the evaluation of the texts.
