Abstract:
The paper aims to present the motives, reviewed by Bulgarian linguists, for using the main forms of male proper names instead of their vocative forms when addressing someone. Attention is paid to their attitude of mind towards this phenomenon. Secondly, the author shows the results of a questionnaire which serves to emphasize the respondents’ preference to vocative forms in certain situations of communication.
