Abstract:

The elbow joint represents a basic component of the upper limb’s kinematic chain. It conducts the movements of the arm in taking various positions according to the activities a person is engaged in. This is why, the precise diagnostics of the functional deficit and the following recovery of the normal mobility in the elbow 167 region after the occurrence of traumatic injuries is one of the basic goals of the Physiotherapy. A non-diagnosed functional problem in the zone of the elbow joint, after a traumatic injury, leads to an improper or late treatment that causes longlasting contractures of the joint. Those contractures constitute a serious issue, of both medical and social importance. They are widespread among the active population and have an extremely negative impact on the functionality of the entire upper limb, leading to a loss of working capacity and self-service capabilities. Therefore, a precise evaluation of the functional deficit of the elbow joint and the joint-round soft tissues followed by a proper physical treatment are of highest importance to the patient. The clinic-functional analysis results define the purpose and tasks of the Physiotherapy during a particular course of treatment.
