The elections and the reforms between 1962 and 1975 were held under the conditions of a one-party political model. The electoral system catered for the interests of the regime and was used as a tool in political infighting, for purges or rewards. The deputies, elected under a majority representation system, entered the National Assembly not because they were highly respected persons, but as part of the intra-party mechanisms of BKP and their satellites from BZNS. Electoral activity was close to 100%, candidates also won their seats by a near- 100% majority. No one dared to speak up for truly free and pluralistic elections any longer.
