Резюме:
Seven fragmentary or whole inscriptions from the period and the territories of the First Bulgarian Empire are presented. They were found in some of the modern Balkan states. Most of the inscriptions are just personal names. This group of inscriptions is varied both in terms of content and graphical systems (Glagolitic, Cyrillic, Greek?). Given the nature of the inscriptions, they could hardly serve as direct source for the political history of the Early Medieval Bulgarian state. However they illustrate the diffusion of literacy well beyond the major centres and also indicate the presence of local Bulgarian administration in the regions, where the inscriptions were found, while the literacy (the education in writing) in the First Bulgarian Empre is traditionally assumed to be done by the central authorities.
