Резюме:
In this article, I explore the preparation of the monastic community of the Abbey of St. Gall to repel the Magyar Invasion of 926. I have based my research on the Casus Sancti Galli of Ekkehard IV, which was written during the first half of the 11th century and represents a literary “revolt” against the Monastic reform. The image that Ekkehard builds of Engilbert II of St. Gall is of a capable military commander, successfully defending the Abbey, loyal to king Henry the Fowler. This image is vital, because it only strengthens the relationship between the Royal power and the Abbey of St. Gall, thus strengthening the latter’s position of immunity against the Reformers.
