Abstract:

A literary text becomes a particular message if it uses symbolic illustrations. In the case of literature, symbols have a huge influence on the reader. He/she decodes pieces of reality that emerge from language and themes – symbols which, apart from pleasure, also provide particular information (knowledge). The indicated elements create the foundation of a literary text recognized by the common society. According to Northrop Frye, literature is a form of art that manifests itself by means of a symbol‒archetype which decides on its existence. According to Jung, archetypes and symbols are natural, primal elements of the psyche that are essential in the process of individuation.
