The treatise “The Unity of the Church” by St. Cyprian of Carthage († 258) is an important historical source and part of the literary and spiritual treasury of the Christian Church. The text features originality and genuineness and is characterized by rich expressiveness – there are a lot of picture comparisons, epithets, rhetorical questions and antitheses. However, “The Unity of the Church” is a very precious treatise due to its spiritual value. St. Cyprian of Carthage bases the unity of the Church on the union that exists between the Persons of the Holy Trinity and on different facts from the Holy scripture, as well as on the orders and precepts of the Saviour. The treatise “The Unity of the Church” has not lost its relevance and topicality today – the events in the Orthodox world are a constant evidence of that.
