German as a language of science is considered in the context of language learning as a foreign language – Emphasis is placed on cognitive functions and formative thinking, paying attention to linguistic reflectivity and the epistemological function of language. Innovative and creative potentials of the German language as a scientific language and intercultural influences are revealed. Based on the formative function of language for thinking, the article focuses on the linguistic reflectivity of the German language and its importance for the development of a knowledge society. The importance of the German language for the development of humanities, culturology and intercultural communication is considered. Wordformation openness of the language and openness to non-native language authors as an important prerequisite for the renewal of the language.
