New Verbs in the Bulgarian Language

Abstract:
The article deals with verb neologisms in the Bulgarian language. Only 7% of new words in Bulgarian are new verbs. The study identifies the thematic areas of verb usage. It concludes that the majority of new verbs (approx. 1/3) are used in the sphere of IT. Observations are made on the lexical semantics of new verbs. The study finds that most of the new verbs are semantically motivated by new nouns – loanwords – or are formed using complex suffixes. The new verbs are presented by descriptive, structural or synonymous definitions in dictionaries of neologisms.
