Abstract:

The present article addresses some features of the so-called rhyme transfer, which is a phenomenon specific to the translation of rhymed poetry from genetically related languages. By comparing Russian rhymed poems with their verse translations into Bulgarian, different means of transferring the rhymes from the source text to the target text are discussed. Special attention is paid to some undesirable compromises with semantic exactness or grammatical/stylistic correctness made by the Bulgarian translators for the sake of rhyme transfer.
