Abstract:

Russian postmodernism is an impetuous, uncontrollable reaction against normativity in literature, against the tabooing of language – in everyday interaction and in literary works. Victor Pelevin is a prominent representative of this literary movement. His works stand out by the wide use of obscene lexis. This paper analyses colloquial phraseological units used in Pelevin’s novel Numbers, conducting the examination from the point of view of the difficulties the translator is faced with while transferring these to the target language.

Keywords:

postmodernism, phraseological units, obscene lexis, transfer, target text.
