Abstract:

The paper examines the figure of the aristocrat from the perspective of the polar attitudes typical of the Czech National Revival. In some of the texts from the period the aristocracy is represented as the main promoter within Austro-Hungary of the rights of the Czech nation. At the same time it also emerges as the chief importer of harmful foreign influences. The text analyzes the connections which, according to the ideologues of the Czech National Revival, every true Czech must establish with the collective nation.
