Abstract:

The verbal adverbs has been present in the literary grammar works since the very appearance of such works. However, the special studies of this category are few and brief and a complete examination of the use of the verbal adverbs in the language, including in modern Bulgarian grammars, is virtually absent. Here we will try to find out the beginnings of the realization of the existence and functioning (formal and semantic) of this part of the speech in the history of the study of the Bulgarian language. Under consideration are both monographic and systematic works, as well as practical tools for everyday use and we will strive to provide a critical and objective assessment from the standpoint of the introduced concept. We will try to present the various opinions in a comprehensive manner with more quotations, which should make the picture as objective as possible, regardless of our position. In some cases we will take the liberty to model and schematize some concepts, which will provide better opportunities for comparing them with other content-related or opposing ideas.
