Abstract:

This article introduces a new paradigm in linguistics – ratiocentric. The paradigm is based on the hypothesis that some basic properties of the human thinking are characteristic features of the intelligence in general. The necessity of the implementation of thе paradigm in future contacts with extraterrestrial civilizations is substantiated. The article examines various examples from the science fiction, where better understanding between different races could be achieved through the medium of the ratiocentric paradigm: China Mieville's 𝐸𝑚𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑦𝑡𝑜𝑤𝑛 (the analogy is a common feature in thinking patterns of the different races), Robert J. Sawyer’s 𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐺𝑜𝑑 (the conceptual metaphor theory) and Orson Scott Card's 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐷𝑒𝑎𝑑 (linguistic categorization theory).
