Abstract:

B. Okudzhava’s novel π‘‡β„Žπ‘’ π·π‘–π‘™π‘’π‘‘π‘‘π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘π‘’π‘ β€™ π½π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘›π‘’π‘¦, conventionally referred to as "historical”, is an example of a "poet’s prose", which carries the aesthetic memory of the verse. The originality of this work is due to the simultaneous use of the poetic and prosaic ways of modelling the reality. The specific manifestations of the poetic principle in the novel are numerous and diverse – metrical organization of some paragraphs, unpredictable occurrences of rhymes, insertion of many poetic citations. The present paper focuses on the attempts of the Bulgarian translator of the novel to render the above-mentioned characteristics in his translation.
