Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to point out the concrete possibilities of using authentic texts in teaching Slovak as a foreign language. Attention is drawn to the various journalistic discourses available on the Internet (in particular, articles from newspapers, magazines, radio and television reports, radio and television news, etc.) as well as how they are applied with a view to developing language competences and communication skills within each language levels. The paper deals with the criteria of selection of suitable texts as well as the advantages and disadvantages associated with using this material in the teaching process. Part of the paper are proposals of own materials applicable in teaching Slovak as a foreign language.
