The Concepts of Hero and Celebrity in Live Television Broadcasts

Abstract:

The core subject of the paper is the analysis of the process of commentating on live television sports broadcasts. The analysis is based on the description and explication of selected parts of commentator’s speech related to communication about sports heroes and sport celebrities in the structure of football live broadcasts commentary. The article attempts to point out what kind of information about well or less known football players appears in the commentator’s speech and whether the broader media status of athletes is reflected in the commentary structure or manifests itself predominantly outside the live broadcasts. The analysis builds on previous researches that investigated stereotypical structures in the language of commentary. The paper tri to connect the cultural dimension of media sport with its communication image built by commentators.
