Linguistic Correctness and Validation of Medical Lexis

Abstract:

Translation of specialized medical textbooks is investigated as a source of bilingual terminology and professional lexis in the language pair English–Bulgarian. The loan vocabulary used by the Bulgarian medical community in written scientific discourse is verified in a parallel corpus for the purpose of building specialized e-resources for training purposes. The collocational potential of the key terms is highlighted with linguistic samples of contextual usage. The aim of the corpus-based study is to compile English–Bulgarian specialized medical glossaries where key words and specific language patterns are identified in an authentic source text (English) and their translation equivalents in Bulgarian are checked for consistency, appropriateness, and linguistic correctness.
