Abstract:

The founder of Ikea Ingvar Kamprad began naming his products right from the start of the company’s creation. Urged by pragmatic motives, he replaced the rank of numbers with short names. This process led to the creation of a systematized digital bank of names known since the early 1980s as Ikea Naming Convention. This paper is to be considered as a part of the thesis “The Product names of Ikea – a Tradition in Development. Onomastic Research”. It presents the names of the Catalog 1955. The aim is to analyze the variety of product names in the early period of the company’s creation and to establish the regularities in their choice.
