Abstract:
The paper examines the current EU identity and memory policies in their interdependence. It presents a critical discussion of the tension between promoting a positive identification with the EU and focusing on Europe’s dark past from the first half of the 20th century and of the concept of “universal” European values as the main approach for a common European identity.
