Distinctive Features and Methods of Formation of Ergonyms in the Urban Linguistic Landscape

Abstract:

This article is part of a larger study of ergonyms and pragmatonyms in the urban onomastic space. The set of nominations, reflecting the characteristics of the city relief, the landscape and the adjacent territories, the specifics of the city’s population and its history, form the city onomasticon or the city linguistic landscape. In the modern urban language space, there are various names of commercial organizations (ergonyms), represented both by local lexicon and by loanwords from different languages. The present article examines the distinctive characteristics of ergonyms as onomastic units, as well as the methods of their formation (nominations).
