Abstract:

This study takes interest in the reading habits of a respondent who knows several foreign languages in which he reads and works. The main focus of the study are the similarities and differences in communication with texts in the various languages he knows – both native and foreign. The question of whether the habits of reading for work or for pleasure affect the habits of reading in a foreign language and vice versa is also examined. The data was collected through an interview with questions prepared ahead of time. The results show that professional interests in linguistics influence the respondent’s reading habits. He is equally dedicated when reading texts in his native language as he is when reading foreign ones, and neither the genre, nor if the reading is for work or pleasure impact this.
