Abstract:
In 1991, for the first time in Bulgaria, St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo establishes the Applied Linguistics specialty, where one of the main units is the French language in combination with Italian as a second foreign language. For this purpose, the collegium of Italian language was created to prepare future translators. In 1998, a specialized Italian language seminar was equipped with the help of the Italian Cultural Institute. In 30 years, more than 25 graduations have been completed, more than 10 curricula have changed, different educational systems have been used - from Katerinov’s emblematic La lingua italiana per stranieri to Nuovissimo progetto italiano, students have received various additional specializations in the field of economics and tourism or a pedagogical qualification. Today, our alumni practice a wide range of professions in which they have succeeded because of the languages they studied.
