Abstract:

This article offers a comparative study of German and Bulgarian parliamentary speeches within the war discourse. The analysis concentrates on the pragmatic role that the pronoun we has in the right-wing populist rhetoric in the context of the war in Ukraine. It is demonstrated that the first-person plural deictic pronominals have the function to construe groups by excluding or including other groups in the political arena. The results reveal differences in the choice of meanings of the pronoun we despite the same ideology the analyzed political parties are shearing.
