Abstract:
Intercultural communication is defined as a kind of “philosophy of tolerance” in the modern global geopolitical space. The source of bilingualism, as a rule, is the ethnic heterogeneity of the society itself, for example, the coexistence in the country of two ethnic groups that use different languages. In Ukraine, bilingualism arose in the period after the Second World War due to the imposition of a sense of national solidarity. A mechanism has been put in place to destroy the original characteristics of the Ukrainian language. Let us highlight the geographical multilingualism in Ukraine caused by the neighbourhood with different countries (Ukrainians-Poles, Ukrainians-Hungarians etc). The need to establish contacts with other countries raises the issue of active use of foreign languages in various spheres of life. Therefore, multilingualism is a more social phenomenon that can be observed primarily in the verbal and non-verbal interaction of people in the professional sphere, which undoubtedly contributes to productive working relationships and expands their language skills.
