Abstract:
The article focuses on the stages of penetration and the volume of foreign words in the Italian language. At certain stages of its development, Italian, for political, commercial, cultural or purely linguistic reasons, borrows vocabulary from the other languages with which, in this process of borrowing, it is in most cases in direct contact. Borrowed lexical items have enriched both the vocabulary and the numerous dialects of the language. In the new millennium, there is an increased and not fully justified borrowing of Anglicisms/Americanisms.
