Abstract:
The aim of foreign language teaching is to develop and improve reading skills so that they can be further developed by learners in an out-of-school environment. Texts in German language teaching are multifunctional: on the one hand, they serve to acquire new learning material (vocabulary or grammar), and on the other hand, they prepare learners for fluent speaking and creative writing. Understanding the text, which depends on the reader‘s existing knowledge and experience, enables the transition to their own spoken and written expression. The paper aims to investigate the interaction between the language activities of reading, listening, speaking, and writing and, based on a synthetic text from a German textbook, to establish to what extent reading competence leads to developing individual skills and activities.
