Abstract:
The tourist texts at the Yi Sang-hwa House Museum illustrate the importance of the translator’s consideration of visitors’ background knowledge and cultural context. The absence of cultural and historical information can significantly reduce the impact and quality of the visitor’s experience, particularly for those unfamiliar with Korean history and the poet Yi Sang-hwa. To ensure a meaningful translation that conveys the messages and symbolism of this historical site, the translator must act as a cultural mediator. This involves not only accurate translation but also adapting the text to elicit an emotional response from the tourists. Additionally, it is important for the translator to collaborate with the client to create an impactful and effective final product.
